Walking with my baby: how and when

From the second month, it is very healthy to take your baby out for a walk and to enjoy the pleasant temperatures of spring. With the cold, it is normal to walk around in the central hours of the day, but from now and during the summer the pediatricians recommend opting for the morning hours (till 12) and in the afternoon (from 5), when the strong heat of midday no longer dominates.

Logically, we are assailed by the doubts of whether it will be convenient or not, what are the best hours and if we can expose the baby from its first days of life to the sun's rays. The specialists recommend caution in the first month, because they still do not regulate their temperature well, they need tranquility, they eat every so often, they have to be changed often and, in conclusion, it becomes difficult to make these limitations compatible with a relaxed walk.


A suitable time for the walk with the baby

For at least the first three months, the trips must be short duration, for example, about half an hour of ride in the cart. As your child grows, you can go on prolonging their outings and repeat them several times throughout the day, because the time of sleep will decrease. A good idea is to combine your walk with other activities, such as taking the siblings to school, walking with friends, running errands, etc. In this sense, the ideal is that you you turn the father and the mother, so that both of you participate in this little party that supposes for your son to take him for a walk in his cart.


Walking with the baby ... before or after eating?

Sometimes, parents have doubts about whether to take before or after meals to give his pass to the child. This will really depend on the character of your child. If is one active baby, the walk after the meal may be better, because it will allow you to fall asleep easily thanks to the swaying of the stroller; if, on the contrary, it is a calm boy, the walk before the shots will serve as a stimulus for your psychomotor development. In any case, you are the parents who should see what your child likes best, trying one or another possibility.

On the other hand, within the education of your child you should not forget the clear benefits of physical activity that involve the walks. They will be like training so that as a child you can move, exercise, do not be sedentary, contributing to a better physical and mental development.


Regarding the advantages for your health, the sun in moderation contributes to the endogenous formation (from inside) of the vitamin D and, if it is not prolonged in excess, almost never will cause fatigue in the child. To enjoy it to the fullest, remember to always be prepared for a change of diapers, spare clothes and some extra clothing if the room temperature changes quickly.

Use protective cream before going out with your baby

April is usually a sunny month in many areas of our country and, although the sun's rays are still oblique, in the central hours of the day can be harmful. For this reason, it is good to take a series of safety measures, such as, for example, wearing long clothes, hats, umbrellas and protective creams. These, as a general rule, should be with a protection factor equal to or greater than 15. Despite all these guidelines, you should not have a false sense of security, exposing the child twice as much time in front of the sun.

Even though the skin of babies It is generally delicate, some children have more sensitive skin than others. Thus, some types of skin are defined, from which it always burns and never tans, until it never burns and tans easily; the extreme types are the albino children and the dark skinned ones. It is important that parents know the skin type of your child to protect him properly. Despite all its benefits, too much sun is harmful.

Tips for going for a walk with your baby

- Remember that when taking your child out for a walk we do not look for the sun to shine on certain parts of the body, the important thing is the environmental temperature. Therefore, if it is still cold, take care that you are warm and do not have a lot of time out.

-   Children who enjoy walks tend to be healthier. The walk has euphoric qualities for them and the parents, it favors a greater stimulus and, on the other hand, it has relaxing effect in many babies.

- If you work both of them and it is another person who takes care of you (caregiver, grandparents, etc.) you should explain what you would do to have them the same precaution in taking care of the baby. It is very important that you are an experienced person, because we are going to place all our trust in her.

- To make the right decision when it comes to sheltering your child, reasonable advice is put the child one more layer of clothing than you need the father or mother, since you move and they do not. If you are in a shirt, it is certain that the child still needs a jacket. Although it is still not very hot, do not forget that the baby's skin can be burned by exposing it too many hours, even if it is fresh.
