Oral hygiene in children

Children's teeth need special care, since they are born you have to be aware that they have a clean mouth. After six months, when teeth start to come out, it is good for parents to brush them until at least three years. PLittle by little the child will go getting mouth cleaning habits according to the education that the parents give him in this aspect.

We present here a series of guidelines that must be taken into account when talking about the oral hygiene of children.

How to clean children's teeth

The four front teeth usually appear at 6 months, although some children do not have their first tooth until 12 or 14 months. Most already have 20 baby teeth at 3 years.

When they do not have teeth yet, the baby's mouth should be cleaned with a washcloth or gauze. At six months they start to get their teeth; It is very important to start brushing to prevent the appearance of cavities or those known as bottle caries. For brushing, you have to use a soft brush and water, and when they are two years old you can use fluoride toothpaste, although you have to teach them how to spit the pasta.

It is usual that during the time when your teeth come outSome children are nervous, do not sleep, get irritated, and may even lose their appetite and drool more than usual. If you have fever or diarrhea or are still cranky and uncomfortable, you should see a doctor.

When children reach the age of three, you can brush your teeth alone, although they must have the supervision of the parents at least until they are 6 years old. Children should be taught to clean their teeth and gums after each meal, especially when they begin to fall teeth, because the new teeth will be permanent and must be aware of having a clean mouth.

The technique of tooth brushing

The technique they use for brushing is fundamental so that your oral hygiene is correct:

1. First, using a soft bristle brush and small head, the chewing surfaces are brushed with movements from front to back.

2. Then they have to sweep the brush always towards the tooth, cleaning gums and the tooth.

3. Following an order, they must start on one side of the denture and end on the other, both above and below.

4. Inside the teeth must also be cleaned Same as outside, but the brush does not fit horizontally so it will be vertical.

When to go to the dentist for the first time

When you get your first tooth you should ask for a dentist appointment, being advisable to schedule the visit during the six months after its appearance. In this first visit, the dentist examines the child's mouth, checks its growth and development, looks for possible oral lesions, decay or other problems, evaluates the use of pacifiers or the habit of sucking the fingers and, if there are abnormalities in the position of the teeth, informs of the most suitable treatments. The branch of dentistry is responsible for treating the most common problems in children, such as cavities, the traumatisms and diseases of the gums.
