Aggressive video games in teenagers
Playing video games is one of the favorite hobbies of teenagers. Spending hours shooting zombies or knocking down enemies turned into soldiers is great entertainment for them. But videogames, and more specifically those that have a high content of violence, can affect your emotional health, increasing feelings of anger and aggressiveness.
Another unfavorable aspect of videogames, is the addiction that creates in adolescents that favors the high exposure of these to video games.
High exposure of adolescents to video games
The video game industry raises more money per year than movies. This is because teenagers do not hesitate to spend money and renew their video games to get some to play every afternoon and more than 3 hours a day.
The videogames they have become an addictive product for your entertainment. Teenagers spend hours and hours in front of the screen, neglecting other activities. Although there is not enough research to show that video games affect academic performance, it is true that children abandon their study time to play, which translates into low notes and sedentary lifestyle, in addition to other behavior problems.
Video games have an emotional influence on teenagers
Another of the data collected in the study of video games and adolescents has been the emotional influence they produce. Studies show that aggressive or violent video games affect the mood of young people. This does not mean that a violent game generates anger or aggressiveness in the player, but that if this teenager has a tendency to be aggressive or is angry or angry, these sensations will increase.
To demonstrate this, a study carried out by the Universities of Malaga and Seville chose adolescents between 12 and 15 years old who underwent several video games, one violent and the other peaceful, related to driving. First they were subjected to a questionnaire to measure their levels of anxiety or anger. Then, they were subjected to a simulator like those of the driving schools, a peaceful game, and then a violent one. Subsequently, the levels of anger and anxiety were studied again.
The study concluded that aggressive video games influence more emotionally those teenagers who are older that to those who are smaller, and stressed that the video game does not make the child aggressive, but it does accentuate these feelings of aggressiveness.
