Nomophobia: anxiety to leave without the mobile

Leaving the phone forgotten at home, that the battery runs out or being out of coverage are situations that can happen to us, and although we may be angry at not being able to contact someone, the feel anxiety or fear in this situation, it really causes us to have a health problem called nomophobia

A new disease attacks young people and adults: the nomophobia. The term is an abbreviation of the English expression no-mobile-phone-phobia.

Nomophobia is the irrational fear of being without the mobile phone. The dependence on this device generates a feeling of incommunication in the user at the time when he can not dispose of the functions of his mobile.


A person consults his phonean average of 34 times a day, without being called or receiving a message, which reveals the technological dependence that we suffer at present.

Causes of nomophobia

- Low self-esteem.

- Problems of the acceptance of one's own body.

- Deficit of social skills and conflict resolution.

Symptoms of nomophobia

- Anxiety, tachycardia, obsessive thoughts, headache and stomach pain.

- Annoyance or concern.

- Denial of the problem.

- Concealment and minimization of the problem towards others.

- Guilty feeling.

- Decrease in self-esteem.


Guidelines to avoid falling into nomophobia

- At night, turn off the phone or put it quietly in a place away from your room. Rest well.

- Avoid receiving and making calls after 12 o'clock at night.

- Do not chat or talk on the phone while you eat, have dinner, or talk with someone. It is disrespectful to have the mobile on the table to those around you and not let you concentrate fully on what you are doing.

- Never chat or talk on the phone while driving. It is dangerous for you and the rest of the drivers and passengers

- On weekends you have some hours to detoxify yourself from the use of the telephone. Turn it off for a while, you'll respond later.
