Spanish students reduce the gap in Mathematics and science with the OECD
Spain has traditionally lagged behind in the different studies that compare the educational level of the students of each country. However, the results of 2015 have shown an improvement that little by little makes the gap between this nation and the top of these rankings of go breaking.
One more example is found in the last report of the 2015 International Program for Student Evaluation or Report, known as the PISA report, which shows an improvement in the level of Spanish students in subjects such as Mathematics and science. Subjects in which traditionally Spanish students have taken the worst grades. In addition, reading comprehension also receives a very good grade this year.
PISA tests: means close to the OECD average
The data makes clear the improvement of students in Spain. This year the score of the students in Mathematics has been 486 points, which has meant an approach to the weighting of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD, which stands at 490.
In Science, Spanish students have improved even more when reaching the 493 points on average, a result that matches the weighting of the OECD. But it has been in reading comprehension where the students of this country have shown more improvement when reaching a score of 496 points.
This score obtained by Spain in reading comprehension leaves this country above the OECD average, which stands at 493 points. In addition, these data make them advance to other nations such as Switzerland, Iceland, Luxembourg or Italy.
The PISA results gap by autonomous communities
The data in this PISA 2015 report indicate that not all Spanish territory has remained within this average. exist clear differences between Autonomous Communities such as Castilla y León, which has been ahead in two of these three subjects exceeding the OECD average, or Andalusia, which takes the last position with other areas showing results very far from the weighting of the country.
In Mathematics it is Navarre which holds the first position with a score of 518, community followed by Castilla y León with 506 and La Rioja with 505. In the tail of this ranking of territories appear Canarias with 452 points, Andalusia with 466 and Murcia with 470.
If we look at the Reading Comprehension classification, they are Castilla y León, with 522 points, Madrid, with 520, and Navarra with 514 the communities that hold the ranking of this subject. In this subject Extremadura is the territory that scores the worst with a result of 475, in the penultimate place appears Andalusia with 479 and Canary Islands with 483.
Finally, in Sciences, Castilla y León again appears as the community that has obtained the best result in this PISA report within Spain. This territory leads this ranking with 519 points, followed by Madrid with 516 and Galicia with 512. The last places are for Andalucía with a score of 473, Extremadura with 474 and Canarias with 475.
