Tips for children to oppose violence
These are some tips that you can put in place to help this day reach all people.
1. Fosters the camaraderie. Teach values to your child, such as companionship that at the same time works with tolerance and respect. If you want to change the world, start with you.
2. Keep violence away from your home. Maintain a cordial and affectionate relationship with your children, that develops trust. Violence in the home can cause fear and be harmful to children.
3. Educate by example. The behavior, values and attitudes of parents and siblings have a great influence on children. If, on occasion, children react with aggressiveness, be firm about the dangers of violent behavior.
4. Prevent children from seeing violence in the media. A recently published report confirmed again that watching too much violence on television, in movies and in video games can have a negative effect on children. As parents, we can control the amount of violence that our children see in the media in the following way:
- Limit the time of watching television from 1 to 2 hours per day.
- Make sure you know what TV shows your children watch, what movies they watch and what types of video games they play.
- Talk to your children about the violence they see on TV shows, in movies and in video games. Help them understand how painful it would be in real life and the serious consequences of violent behavior. Analyze with them ways to solve problems without resorting to violence.
5. Help your children oppose violence.Teach them to respond with firm words while remaining calm when others insult, threaten or hit another person. Help them understand that it takes more courage and leadership to oppose violence than to support it.
