From the pediatrician to the doctor, what does this transition entail

Growing means facing many changes. From leaving the crib to sleep in a bed, going by the goodbye to nursery schools and hello to school. Another example is the change of pediatrician by the doctor. If this specialist is already dedicated to children and causes surprise in them, the professional who attends adults can make visits to the health center more frightening.

A good transition from the pediatrician to doctor will help the children adapt to their new situation quickly. A change that may surprise even more in those children with special needs or chronic diseases who are already accustomed to the attention of a particular professional with whom a bond of trust has been created.

The correct transition from the pediatrician to the family doctor

The first step that must be given is in the health center. So much pediatrician as a family doctor they should have good communication between them. All data related to children must go from one hand to another allowing the new professional who will provide the children with all the necessary information to provide proper care.

On the other hand parents should begin to announce this change to their children in the previous days. A good advice is to let him know that they will say goodbye to his usual pediatrician and that from now on another professional will be in charge of his wellness. In those cases where special attention is needed, it is advisable to present a patient and specialist.

The transition of health services includes the process of changing from a model of health care for children to one for adults, with or without being transferred to a new doctor. This means having time alone with your doctor, respecting your right to a confidential consultation and learning how to take care of your health on your own and in the best way possible according to your abilities.

Take care of one's health: a step towards maturity

Another point that should be taken into account when changing pediatric services for those of the general practitioner is to let the children know that they also have to learn to take care of their own health. This does not mean only that they are the ones who must ensure their welfare, they must also learn to be the ones who communicate with the specialist.

This involves making children see that they should not feel shame to communicate to the specialist all his symptoms or to ask him questions about subjects that they have not understood with exactitude. At the same time, parents should remind their children that they must be the ones to follow the doctor's instructions and not wait for a constant reminder.

They must be those who take medicine, those who perform all the practices recommended by professionals. A common situation among adolescents is that they do not follow the indications provided by the specialists as a sign of rebellion and believing that nothing will happen to them if they leave these tips aside.
