Loneliness in young people can cause insomnia

How important is rest, but how difficult it becomes sometimes. Living on a noisy street or dining copiously can make the dream come true difficult to reconcile. The repetition of these situations can lead to insomnia. However, causes such as those already mentioned are known and can be prevented. However, others have been less treated by researchers.

For example, loneliness, which is able to make young people sleepless and make them suffer from insomnia. This is indicated by a study carried out by the King's College London and that he has focused his research on the university students and other people around the newly independent 18 years and who spend their nights without the company of these people.

Sensation of loneliness

In particular, this study had 2,200 participants between 18 and 19 years old who provided information about their quality of sleep and the feeling of loneliness they experienced. Of all these young people, between 25 and 30% said they felt alone several times and 5% said that this state was something that overwhelmed them regularly.

Those young people who had experienced greater loneliness, had a 24% more of possibilities of reducing your sleep hours and experiencing a state of fatigue throughout the day, presenting serious problems to concentrate. The researchers suggest that this may be due to the feeling of insecurity that a person has at night and that increases in the absence of company.

"Many of the young people in our study are in the college and they live away from home for the first time, which can make the feeling of loneliness worse. It is therefore important that they receive adequate support to address these feelings before they become serious mental health problems, "explains Louise Arseneault, author of this study.

Help the independent

To avoid this feeling of loneliness, parents can help their children newly independent with very simple activities and that make the experience easier for your children. In this way, not only the feeling of lack of company will be avoided, but also the parental-filial bond with the children will be reinforced:

Usual calls. If there are miles in between, nothing happens. New technologies shorten distances. A habitual call for children to feel close to their parents never hurts.

Visits. The weekend arrives and the son is away, why not take advantage of the free time to make a break and visit him? The face of a relative is always pleasant to see and if the floor is alone, it never hurts to fill it with our presence.

Educate them before the march. Before the departure of the child can begin to talk about this situation and give them greater autonomy. Make them cook and other tasks that will benefit them in their independence. Never cut their wings and tell them that they will be better at home, this will increase their feeling of insecurity in the march.

Do not discourage them. Many children may feel guilty when they see their parents reveal that they are lonely. This feeling is harmful, the parents must explain to them that they will see each other from time to time and make them understand that even if they leave, the relationship has not ended.
