Traditions and their importance for children
It is in this context that traditions take on special relevance, since it is a mechanism through which we are able to transmit to the youngest children what kind of actions should be taken into account and what social factors are most important. The traditions are, therefore, fixed activities that are repeated in the calendar more or less periodically, and through which we show a concrete value, such as family life, respect for the elderly or our particular concept of family.
These routines can be of two types: special, linked to events or festivities (birthdays, father's or mother's day, grandparents' day, Christmas *), and everyday, more focused on day-to-day activities such as dining the whole family together, go for a walk on Sundays or take the appetizer at the grandparents' house. Everything will depend on our calendar and the presence we want to give them. But what is important to emphasize is that any tradition that we want to establish in our home, is equally relevant, since it supposes a shared obligation and a commitment on the part of all the members, generating at the same time feeling of unity.
Whatever the type of tradition, it is essential to know how to adapt it to the particularities of our family. That is to say, it is useless to try to accustom our children to go once a month to the countryside if it supposes a wide logistics and many managements that alter the daily life more than usual. It is always better to look for simple alternatives, since the easier this routine is for the day to day, the faster the family will assume it.
Turning a habit into a tradition also implies certain rules. Belonging to this group means that each member can enjoy the trust and closeness of the other members, and has the opportunity to feel confident and safe with the role they play within the family unit. In the end, it is about laying solid foundations that allow creating a relationship of trust between parents and children and, simultaneously, transmit the values and rules that entails being part of your family.
Whatever our family may be, the most important thing is always to stay united, consolidate ties and learn to grow together.
