The ANAR phone handled 75% more cases of bullying during 2015
A crucial point in the life of every child is their entry into school. A new stage begins where their independence grows. But sometimes this moment is the beginning of a hell for children because of bullying. A very serious problem and that the smallest decide to suffer alone for fear of consequences. This silence on their part makes it more difficult to fight against this issue that unfortunately occupies many headlines today.
The data offered by the association Help Children and Adolescents at Risk, ANAR, They are quite worrying in this regard. And is that the telephone help to this sector at risk registered a total of 25000 calls during the past 2015, this means a increase of 75% compared to the previous year. No doubt a significant increase that leads to questioning how to attack this problem that means that the school becomes a building of torture for the child because of this harassment.
Cases quadrupled since 2009
If it is already impressive to see the increase comparing the 2014 and 2015 data, it is more worrying to see the evolution of these numbers in recent years. The data that ANAR offers in its report, prepared together with Mutua Madrileña, show that since 2009 the cases of harassment registered through their telephone number have quadrupled. What shows the magnitude that this problem is reaching within our borders.
ANAR notes that after analyzing these calls that attend a group of psychologists, the most usual thing is that bullying translates into psychological violence rather than physical violence. This association relates the increase of this type of violence and cases of harassment with new technologies. In this way the proliferation of social networks and wassap groups, makes it possible for bullying to take place and what is more worrisome, goes unnoticed by parents
Profile of the victim of harassment or bullying
The ANAR report also addresses the characteristics of those who suffer this harassment. There is no gender that suffers more bullying because of the cases registered through your phone, the 49% were children and 51% were girls. It is especially significant that those minors of between 12 and 13 years make up most of the victims who attended this association. From these ages, cases of harassment are reduced.
The most noteworthy of the ANAR report is to verify that in 70% of the calls attended the harassment of those who claimed to be victims is a problem they suffer daily and in 44% this violence lasts beyond one year. LThe reasons that trigger these harassments range from marginalization due to some difference, disabilities and physical defects, that the minor is introverted and different in terms of tendencies or tastes of the majority.
34% of the minors who called the ANAR telephone said they did not tell their parents about this problem. Among the reasons they mentioned for not communicating this problem are fear of the reaction of the bullies or the reaction that may occur in the School center. On the other hand, in terms of the reaction that parents have to these cases, an immediate measure is always sought either through the complaint or through the change of school and always avoid long or medium term decisions.
Campaign against harassment or bullying
Given the problem of bullying in Spanish society, ANAR has launched a campaign against this issue with Mutua Madrileña. This project is titled "No bullying. Ending bullying begins in you"This measure will lead ANAR to visit different schools throughout the Spanish territory to promote awareness of the current situation and publicize measures to prevent harassment.
With these days ANAR aims to help identify behaviors of ill-treatment between equals, and offer mechanisms that favor coexistence. It also aims to raise awareness about bullying and the role played by the group. This initiative will also be present in social networks with a campaign called #NoBullying that will emphasize the figure of passive spectator that many children have before a case of violence and that even if they do not participate in this harassment, their silence contributes to their continuation.
