Save me, the program with the most complaints for not protecting children

A total of 131 claims have been those received in 2014 in the Joint Monitoring Committee of the Code of Self-Regulation on Television and Children's Content in Spain. Of these, the majority (95) are for content broadcast in Mediaset andthe Sálvame program is the one that has generated the most complaints.

Save me, the program with the most claims

As reported by the Joint Commission, most of the claims filed through the website www.tvinfancia.es have been against the Telecinco program Save Me, who has received a total of 38 complaints inappropriate content during maximum protection time.

This protection schedule, which runs between six in the morning and 10 at night, is where children are supposed to be watching television, so chains are asked to moderate the content that is broadcast, especially in the different strips of reinforced protection within the same schedule.

Of the total of claims filed, only 25 percent of them have finally been accepted, that is, 33 claims, of which 20 referred to Mediaset programs, eight to Atresmedia spaces, four were to Spanish Television and one was to a regional chain.

Specifically, Sálvame has been claimed to have issued during protected hours inappropriate content of a sexual nature and serious conflicts, as well as an inappropriate use of language (Swearing on the air, for example, is not allowed in the protected hours). These motives have also been those related to other programs of other chains, such as Californication (Nitro), Espejo Público (Antena 3) and El último poli duro (Four).

Protection of children on television

The schedules of reinforced protection for children on television they are from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the morning and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. on weekends and national holidays such as January 1 and 6, May 1 , October 12 and December 25, among others.

Likewise, televisions promise to show "a special sensitivity and care" in the holiday programming, although there is no special treatment for these periods. Therefore, if parents observe that content they deem inappropriate for their children during protected hours or that the classification of age programs is not correct, they can file a claim through their website.

According to this Mixed Commission, programs classified as "not recommended for children under 18" can not be issued during the protected hours, nor can programs "not recommended for children under 12 years of age" be included in theReinforced protection bands mentioned before.

Likewise, it is requested to avoid the promotion of programs not recommended for minors in said strips of reinforced protection and in the rest of the protected schedule it will be avoided that it includes the images or sounds that are the cause of that classification. Finally, the norm also urges to avoid the promotion of programs "not recommended for children under 12 years of age" in a schedule of reinforced protection, as well as images or sounds that are the cause of this classification.
