How to solve conflicts in the classroom
In all classrooms, conflicts exist at some time or another. Conflicts between students are inevitable and do not have to be bad. What if that is a problem, is the inappropriate use of the way to solve them. Often, conflicts in the classroom waste a lot of time and provoke the sensation of impotence between parents and child. We understand as conflict the discrepancy of interests and needs between two or more parties.
Problems of students in Primary, Secondary and High School Education
We are currently with a large number of students who present problematic attitudes in schools:
- We find in Primary a very high rate of children suffering from hyperactivity
- In Secondary, is characterized by a high absenteeism and school failure.
- In High School, there is an increase in cyberbullying as a consequence of not knowing how to handle new technologies in an adult and mature way.
Where do conflicts come from in the classroom?
The behavior of students is often the reflection of the problems they have at home. Divorces and separations generate stress, anxiety, lack of attention and concentration in students. The lack of figures that follow up on the child's duties and on how his academic course is going means that the student ends up with homework that is not done, that he has a rebellious attitude towards his surroundings, and that no one seems to him an entity of authority.
It is important that we are able to make the child who has the problem feel heard, to tell him things without feeling attacked.
Music, remedy against conflicts in the classroom
It is important to identify the problem in time. A method to manage these conflicts can be done through music as a means of channeling and controlling emotions. Music acts as a means to soften emotions and deactivates the tension and stress generated.
- Through this process, creativity among students will be stimulated.
- The teacher will develop the power of authority.
- Students will learn to talk and discuss constructively.
