EduCaixa implements Big Data in schools

Digital data are present in our day to day and children must learn from childhood to use them with conscience. For this reason, EduCaixa has launched the first educational intelligence program of data or Big Data in Spain aimed at the development of digital competence of ESO, Bachillerato and CFGM students.

Because technology is radically transforming the labor landscape, the management of cities and digital participation, allowing the development of new projects, products and services based on data management, more and more teachers are aware of the need to strengthen the development of the digital competency of the students and, thus, to work on the skills that allow them to participate responsibly and efficiently in the digital paradigm.

The collection, analysis and processing of massive data (Big Data) is a revolution that increases the ability to access information, understand and generate it. Understanding this phenomenon in its entirety will be essential to live in a digitized world.

This is how Big Data works in school

Thanks to the new program of EduCaixa in schools, the students of 3rd and 4th of ESO, baccalaureate and intermediate level training cycles, will be able to develop an active, critical and realistic attitude towards digital technologies and data. They will learn to be able to extract and process them to generate knowledge and participate in society, because this program puts at their disposal procedures and attitudes related to the presence of data in daily life.

Teachers can access the program by registering on their web platform, www.bigdata.educaixa.com, which also offers the BigData EduCaixa application. This app includes five thematic blocks: the concept of Big Data, the devices that generate and interact with data, the world of apps, social networks and the Open Data concept.

The online space also offers three different didactic itineraries, so that teachers can apply the subject according to their needs and those of the students. Likewise, the program integrates models covered by tools and activities typical of the active methodology: cooperative work, learning based on research projects and the use of routines and thinking skills.

In the BigData eduCaixa platform, the activities are complemented by a series of evaluation elements to help both teachers and students in monitoring the degree of achievement of the objectives, with special emphasis on the learning process and metacognition. In this sense, the program proposes dynamics for the evaluation and test of self-evaluation of learning.

EduCaixa is the program that encompasses the educational offer of the Obra Social "la Caixa", promoting and promoting educational transformation in order to respond to the needs of 21st century society. In this way, not only the students but also the teachers of early childhood education, secondary school, high school and intermediate level training cycles may have access to resources, activities and educational practices that meet this program.

Following this line, through www.educaixa.com the program makes available to all teachers more than 800 online resources and 16 projects on different thematic areas, and, through its CaixaForum and CosmoCaixa centers, more than 15,000 workshops and activities.
