More than a million children watch TV at 10 o'clock at night

Nowadays television is an element that is not missing in any home. The rooms are built around this device and in many homes there is more than one television. The children find in the televisions a pleasant pastime in which to see their favorite programs. There is no need to worry as long as the content that the minor sees is appropriate to his age and at the appropriate time.

However, in many cases, minors are hearing certain content classified for adults or the content they wish to see is delayed until after 10 o'clock at night. This matter has made the Association of Users of Communication, AUC, to ask parents to reflect on whether their children make proper use of television. At the same time, this body calls for increased protection of minors in prime time, as well as a rationalization of these hours.

The contents of television from 10 o'clock at night

AUC notes that, based on the data from its hearings, there are more than a million children who stay to watch the television from 10 o'clock at night. This time slot departs from the protected sections, so children are exposed to adult content and certainly not advised for them. In this way the smallest of the house become the audience of programs with a large volume of insults or violent films recommended in most cases for people over 18 years.

In this sense, this association asks the parents a little reflection on the matter: should they allow their children to stay awake to see content that is not recommended for them? That is, AUC recommends that you reconsider on the use of the television that is made at home, especially when there are minors and on the habits of these compared to the contents of television programs.

Rationalization of television schedules

Another of the demands made by AUC regarding prime time is the schedule of some contents that are cataloged for minors but whose broadcast is postponed until after 10 o'clock at night. This association names the most successful contents among children during 2015: Frozen, The Karate Kid or Master Chef Junior. Both the aforementioned films and the program were broadcast at prime time, a band that is increasingly delayed on the grid.

The fact that every time the prime time postpone beyond 10 o'clock at night It is a worrisome point since this contributes to the minor staying in front of the television in a schedule that is not even recommended for adults. Not only AUC is betting on the rationalization of this strip, the National Commission for the Rationalization of Spanish Timetables, ARHOE, also vindicates the television networks an advance in prime time.

This Association requests that the contents of greater audience in the chains, that normally are usually issued in prime time, advance their completion at 23:00. With this request, ARHOE expresses its desire to be able to improve the rest without renouncing the leisure time offered by television, since sometimes seeing how a film ends or the chapter of a series causes the children to go to bed at odd hours .

Tips for responsible television consumption

Given these facts, you can follow a series of guidelines that contribute to responsible consumption of television at home. In this way, it will be possible to contribute to the fact that despite the schedule that the chains decide is not adequate, limits can be set and the children are taught to make correct use of this device:

1. Collective use of television. It is recommended that the contents be viewed as a family and the individual use of the television be limited. This will control both the content that minors see and the time dedicated to them.

2. Limit the number of televisions at home. Sometimes minors have a television in their room, which prevents you from knowing what you see and if you see it once the child is already in bed. It is advisable that at home there is only one device located in the room.

3. Do not use television as "kangaroo". Television is an entertainment device, this means that it does not replace a person when caring for a child. Care must be taken not to convert this device into another member of the family, nor to use it during meals.

4. Learn about the contents. In many occasions you can think that a content that the child is good for him simply because cartoons appear. However, it is always good to learn about what the grill offers to know if these products are recommended.

5. Avoid "indirect" exposure. If you are not watching TV, it is advisable to turn it off. This avoids the bad habit of always having the TV on as long as it "makes noise".
