When going to school is a drama

It is not usual for a child not to want to go to school out of the habitual laziness that children have to do what they should. The plan to go to school is really attractive to them. They are with their friends, they play, they are paid attention ... although they are also required an effort and a concentration that, in most cases, does not go beyond the playful part of being with their classmates.

The activity of children in school

The main activity of the child in school has two aspects: social and academic. In such a way that if one of these two parts fails, it can create reactions in the child of disinterest in going to school or, depending on the seriousness of the matter, of rejection. And so the problem arises: when going to school is a drama, school phobia.


1. Social problems at school. At the level of the social relationship, the difficulties can be varied. The group arises at random, that is, they have "touched" that group but it has not been created by affinity. Therefore, very positive relationships can arise from this chance, but there may also be children who have more problems to get to the group or find their place. At other times, the figure of the leader, predominant in all groups, can generate very pleasant feelings among children, but also some of them may not have the appropriate affinity and suffer as a result.

In general, the reasons why some children do not want to go to school are: because they are not comfortable with their classmates, they have not found their place or they do not have a friend to lean on.


2. Difficulties of learning at school. On the other hand, there are children to whom learning the rhythm of learning is very expensive due to possible learning difficulties: attention, memory, comprehension, dyslexia, hyperactivity ... These learning difficulties are not always detected, so it tends to label the child lazy, which generates in him a low self-concept or self-esteem, in addition to the own difficulty of facing learning. This is why school, for this type of children, can really be a nightmare.

The reaction of parents when going to school is a drama

In any situation of conflict with a child, the first thing we must do, both parents and educators, is to try to collect information on how the child is in school, paying special attention to social relations and the child's academic development. For this, it is advisable:


- Meeting with the teacher: He has information that we, as parents, do not have. Also, with this meeting you can be alerted, in case he had not detected any anomaly.
- Indirect conversations with the child: it is very positive, whether you perceive possible difficulties or not, to talk with him every day about how he has spent the day at school, what he has done, with whom he has played, how he has ... These conversations They must be overly forced and overwhelm the child with many questions. It is better to give him the opportunity to express himself when he wants, but you have to try to propitiate situations in which he can do it, taking advantage of the trips home, while you snack or prepare the backpack for the next day. Before you go to bed, it is good that you dedicate a time of conversation and tell yourself how you have spent the day.
- Observe the child when he is with his classmatese, in the playground, on birthdays or when they are left to play.
- Support your brothers to receive information.
- Observe and be alert when doing homework and in the study.
